Mysore Woodlands

Indian food never gets old. Wait, good Indian food never gets old. Udipi on Church St. closed, and another South Indian veg spot opened in its place, Mysore Woodlands. Since other vegans broke the seal on it, we went ahead and gave it a try first week it was open.

I pretty much can’t resist vada, lentil doughnuts. This time I got them floating in rasam. Delicious rasam.

Kevin got Tofu Pakora and Gobi Manchurian.

And I got the .. chole batura, I think. Or chana masala with puri. Can’t keep my deep fried bread and chick peas in gravy straight. It’s hard for me to avoid the fried when having Indian food. Diced onion and lemon was hiding under the bread.

Everything was really tasty. We really need to get back for another try.

Creamy all-in-one bowl

When I’m scanning recipes in Hearty Vegan Meals for Monster Appetites, I tend to get visions of buying even fatter pants and possibly investing in a rag on a stick.

But the Creamy All-In-One Bowl didn’t look too terribly waist expanding, so I gave it a go. Tofu, broccoli and pineapple in a creamy peanut butter dressing over brown rice. Look, bonus fruit serving! And it was really good. The dressing had a nice tang.

Tofu chilaquiles

When you only do your grocery shopping once a week, you need a few late in the week recipes. The Tofu Chilaquiles from The Happy Herbivore works well for that. I’ve had a few versions of chilaquiles and I think I like the kind you cook up with corn tortillas better. A bit of Daiya might have found its way into these, but not a ton. Just a little sprinkle on top. All I had was some raw beet chips, so those served as the corn chips. The leftovers were really good spooned inside of steamed corn tortillas and eaten taco style.

Kooksu at Takorea

While I do love the tofu tacos and sesame fries, the Kooksu (soba noodles, cucumber, cabbage, lettuce, Korean red pepper sauce – ask for no egg and it’s vegan) at Takorea hits the spot when you’re looking for a healthier option. Of course, I then end up destroying this and taking more than a couple of Kevin’s sesame fries. It cannot be helped. Heads up, they do trivia on Thursday evenings. It gets loud.

The lighting outside the window made the trees look all spooky.
